- Some of West Virginia’s major industries include coal mining, livestock, and chemical manufacturing. But one newer field that is continuing to grow in the Mountain State is computer forensics. As with the rest of the country, the demand continues in West Virginia for the computer forensics field due to the constant growth of the use of electronic devices, including computers.
- With the ever-growing demand for computer forensic professionals, more and more schools are rushing to make computer forensic degrees more readily available for interested students. And while campus-based computer forensic programs are scarce, West Virginia currently has two locations for these highly-specialized degrees. However, only one of these campuses offers a computer forensic related degree, the other offers a certificate program. Marshall University Graduate College, located in Huntington, offers a master’s in Forensic Science Program with an emphasis in Computer Forensics; and West Virginia University in Morgantown offers a Certificate in Computer Forensics.
- However, if you do not live near the areas that offer campus-based programs, or do not like the idea of having to commute to go to class, online options may be a better fit for you. With a more flexible curriculum that students are able to complete on their own schedule, online colleges seem to be beating campus schools to the punch.
