FBI Computer Forensics
- Federal law enforcement agencies have been at the forefront in terms of developing the capacity to respond to, investigate, and conduct forensic examinations in crimes involving technology. For instance, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has developed Computer Analysis and Response Teams (FBI CART) in many of its larger offices. These specially trained agents and examiners can effectively respond to crimes involving technology. These offenses include the FBI’s main priorities; terrorism, corruption, technology offenses, economic crimes, and organized crime.

- Other federal agencies have similarly engaged in improving their ability to respond to computer incidents. The Department of Homeland Security has several regional laboratories dedicated to cooperative law enforcement task forces dedicated to investigating hi-tech crimes and forensically examining digital media in a myriad of offenses. Military and intelligence agencies, concerned with the protection of our country’s most important interests, have always been at the forefront of the forensic movement.
