  • Q: In what ways do you feel your degree adequately prepared you for your computer forensics career?
    A: With computer forensics being such a relatively new field, almost everyone in the industry had a general computer background until recently with the computer forensics certifications and programs now available. Therefore my degree was crucial in getting “in the door”.

    Q: Why did you choose to go into computer forensics?
    A: To put it simply, money, advancement, and I found the field interesting.

    Q: What personality traits and skills do you possess that you feel help you in computer forensics?
    A: Being analytical, adapting to change quickly, having good people skills, and being organized.

    Q: What steps does someone go through to get a job in computer forensics?
    A: Earning your degree in computer forensics or another related information technology field and earning certificates in forensics are both important. Also most employers want experience which one can obtain through internships or volunteer experiences.

    Q: What is the most enjoyable thing about your job?
    A: Being in a field that is changing rapidly can be very enjoyable.

    Q: What is the biggest challenge regarding your job?
    A: Staying on top of the constant changes can be difficult.

    Q: What are your daily tasks like?
    A: My job is in computer forensics software sales which is much different than that of a forensic examiner. My job mainly involves answering questions from my distributors. Sometimes these questions are technical and other times they pertain to buying software.

    Q: What is one thing you didn’t know about computer forensics before going into the field that you wish you had known?
    A: There can be a lot of travel involved.

    Q: What would you tell incoming college students regarding the field?
    A: Now is the time to get involved in this field since it is relatively new and growing bigger by the day.
